How the rate is calculated
The indicative rate is calculated from the supplied 24K reference, not independently supplied by a price feed. A final jewellery valuation also depends on tested purity and net gold weight after non-gold materials are accounted for.
Karat, fineness and the published reference
Calculated references use the supplied 24K price: 22K at 91.6%, 20K at 83.3%, 18K at 75%, 16K at 66.7% and 14K at 58.3%, rounded to the nearest rupee per gram. The 14K/585 hallmark denotes 58.5% gold; it is not the 58.3% calculation basis used in this table.
Sixteen parts out of twenty-four is approximately 66.7% gold. A description of 16K is not, by itself, proof of a recognized hallmark or of the composition of your piece.
